李临潘，男，陕西西安市人。中国工艺美术大师，高级工艺美术师，享受国务院特贴的地毯设计专家。1959年西安美术学院油画系毕业，曾任青海人民出版社美术编辑，历任天津地毯研究所所长、天津地毯公司技术副经理、总工艺师等职，现任中国工艺美术协会理事及协会地毯专业委员会秘书长、全国地毯标准化技术委员会主任。在六十年代初，对我国西北地区传统地毯进行调查研究。八十年代以来，三次出国考察地毯市场情况。在艺术挂毯，地毯设计上取得突出成就。大型艺术"长城"挂毯作为国家礼品赠送给联合国总部。1983年，他与国内外学者合著的《中国地毯》在美国出版。

Li is considered an expert in Chinese carpet design, Personal Biography.He is a Master of Arts and Crafts ( a title bestowed by China annually to exceptional artists; only a few have been thus honored ). In recognition of his contribution to China ’s carpet industry and for his famous designs, Li has been awarded a national lifelong stipend from the Chinese government.

After graduating from Xian Arts University with a degree in fine arts, Li has been variously: the Chairman of the Tianjin Carpet Institute, Master Designer and the technical manager of Tianjin Carpet Corporation, and today he is Secretary General of China ’s Arts & Crafts Association Carpet Line Commission and the Chairman of China’s Carpet Standardization Technique Committee. He has been engaged in the Carpet Industry for over 40 years.

Li is also an innovator of carpet design and a developer of new carpet manufacturing technologies. He is credited with improving production standards in China by locating and procuring new technologies internationally.

Apart from his official duties, Li has been involved for decades in researching the combination of traditional (ancient Chinese) carpet weaving skills with the production techniques of today.

Li ’s most famous design, one of the Great Wall of China , was presented to the United Nations as a gift from the People’s Republic of China upon their accession in 1974. Li is also co-author of “China Carpet” published in the United States in 1982. This book, illustrated by Li, is a respected study of Chinese carpet design and Chinese carpet weaving techniques through history.
